This is the story of a novice monk called Edward Cooper who is entrusted with the Miracle Box by a dying grand wizard. The book is set in England in the 15th century during The Plague. Edward finds the Miracle Box pretty pretty handy for curing sufferers of the Great Death. But the situation gets decidedly sticky when the local warlord Fenwick hears about Edward's deeds. You see, the Miracle Box can do no end of good, but in the wrong hands it can do a whole lot of bad.
